Hong Jinbao: I hope my son will succeed and become a film family

Yangcheng Evening News reporter, Wang Li

The first press conference of the war action film "Dangerous Wind and Cloud", which will be released on May 27, was held in Beijing yesterday. Director Chen Jiashang made a collective appearance with starring Zhao Wenzhuo, Hong Jinbao, Wu Yue and Hong Tianming to share the behind-the-scenes stories of the shooting. The two generations of kung fu superstars Zhao Wenzhuo and Hong Jinbao have achieved their first cooperation and have a full understanding. Hong Tianming and Wu Yue also restored the fighting scenes in the film on the spot, so that the audience can experience the film’s hearty action scenes in advance.

After the press conference, Hong Jinbao and his eldest son, Hong Tianming, jointly accepted an exclusive interview with our reporter and talked about the feelings of filming "Dangao Fengyun".

Playing happily with Zhao Wenzhuo "We are all good at fighting, almost no NG"

Based on the heroic deeds of history, the movie "The Bandits" tells the story of a generation of famous generals Qi Jiguang (played by Zhao Wenzhuo) and Yu Dayou (played by Hung Jinbao) to wipe out the Japanese plague. Yu Dayou is a famous general in history who fought against the Uyghur, and he has a big heart and does not care about fame and fortune. Director Chen Jiashang said that the first thing that comes to his mind is Hung Jinbao if Yu Dayou’s actor can suppress Qi Jiguang’s actor Zhao Wenzhuo in all aspects. In this regard, Hong Jinbao said with a smile: "Fortunately, I am fat enough and heavy enough to be able to suppress it."

In the film, Qi Jiguang and Yu Dayou are called "Yu Long Qihu", both teachers and friends, not only in martial arts, but also in spiritual exchanges. "They are not considered mentors and apprentices, but in life and on the battlefield, Qi Jiguang will observe and learn some of Yu Dayou’s experiences," Hong Jinbao said. Although the film is the first collaboration between Hong Jinbao and Zhao Wenzhuo, the two have a tacit understanding, and there is a feeling that they have met late. There is a wonderful duel in the film that impressed Hong Jinbao: "Our sparring scenes were very smooth, almost no NG, and they were all one or two. Because we all fight, we have a tacit understanding when we fight." Outside of the play, they never learned martial arts, "only the’mouth skills’, who can eat faster." Hong Jinbao said with a smile.

Shooting action movies is like "normal food" for Hong Jinbao, but this time, the heavy armor made him suffer a lot. "The armor was about the same weight as me, and it was even heavier when I put it on. The most comfortable time was the scene with Zhao Wenzhuo, because I was much lighter in casual clothes."

It is worth mentioning that Hong Jinbao’s son Hong Tianming also played the main role in the film Chen Dacheng. Hong Tianming, who is not an action actor, was particularly nervous at the beginning of the shooting. He said: "I was afraid that I would not do well enough, so I always checked with the director repeatedly to see how the shot was going. Everyone gave me a lot of encouragement, and then I became more and more relaxed, and the whole process was very happy."

"I hope my son will succeed and become a film family"

Hong Jinbao and Hong Tianming father and son are in the same play, but there is no opposite scene. Hong Tianming said: "At first I didn’t know he was also participating in the shooting. Because there is no opposite scene, it is often when he is there and I am not there, and when I am there he is not there." Although there is no communication during the shooting process, he will ask his father for advice when he has any doubts. Regarding his son’s performance, Hong Jinbao said: "I look forward to his acting ability to go further. I really want him to be able to lead the lead in the future. If it is better to be a director, he can ask me to be a martial arts instructor as a director."

In the eyes of his son Hong Tianming, Hong Jinbao is an eternal classic. "I didn’t learn martial arts from an early age like my father, and my foundation is not as solid, so I’m definitely not as good as him. But since I was a child, watching him shoot martial arts scenes, I have also learned a lot. I feel that I have some talent in movements, and I can show good-looking movements." In the past, Hong Tianming would feel a lot of pressure to work with his father, but now not, "I have grown up and am not afraid of him, haha! I am very much looking forward to working with my father, and I really want to fight him. I can’t fight back in normal life, but I can when filming."

Mr. Hung, who has three sons, is now working in film and television, but he is not forcing them to follow their own path. "Tian Ming is now an actor, and my second son is a martial arts director. Of course I hope they can take over and become a film family. It doesn’t matter if they can’t do it, but they are still based on their own wishes. They can do whatever they are good at. If they have to do things that they are not talented at, they will not have good results." On his father’s expectations, Hong Tianming said: "We can’t match my father’s achievements, but we hope to do our best. In the future, I want to be a producer and director, and now I am also preparing some scripts, maybe ask my father to act."

Hong Jinbao, who is over 60 years old, still insists on playing in action movies himself. As a son, Hong Tianming is naturally distressed: "In fact, he has a hard time filming, not because of his age, but because of the old injuries accumulated from previous action movies. But he is very happy, because movies are his favorite thing, and we can only hope that he will protect his health."

Hope to revitalize Hong Kong movies "Shooting action movies is a gift from God"

After nearly 50 years in the film industry, Hong Jinbao is definitely one of the representatives of Hong Kong kung fu films. For his achievements, Hong Jinbao thinks it is "God’s reward": "Some people younger than me can’t make action movies because their physical conditions don’t allow it. If God gives me such excellent physical conditions, I will definitely do it. What kind of entertainment can give you the opportunity to work with hundreds of people, and they can still listen to you lose your temper? Only movies. This kind of career is what I aspire to. If I don’t do this, I will waste the preferential treatment given to me by God." Until when? "If there is nothing wrong with my body and brain, then why don’t I do it? If I act more and perform more, maybe Alzheimer’s can arrive a little later."

Hong Kong films, once a dream factory for Hong Kam Po, have undergone a lot of changes in recent years, with more and more genre films made on a small budget and focusing on small people. In Hong Kam Po’s view: "This is a trend that can’t be helped. The investment in action films must be large. If Hong Kong is the main one, the market will not accept it at all, so many of them are made at a small cost now." According to data, last year, Xiang ** produced 68 films, a new high in 15 years, of which 25 were made by new directors. Hong Kam Po said: "The market is getting better and better is the hope of every Hong Kong filmmaker. Now there are many new directors coming out, and I am very happy. Slowly accumulate experience and resources, and these new directors can also make some blockbusters in the future. There are many new things and ideas, and I also want to find new directors to shoot, they are fresh blood in the film industry. "

Mr. Hung is not happy about the "decline" of action films in Hong Kong: "There are fewer and fewer action films in Hong Kong now. The more no one shoots, the less action newcomers can come out. For today’s young people, if they don’t give them new hope, why should they learn kung fu?" Still, Mr. Hung is convinced that Hong Kong action films have an unshakable status: "Anyway, I still believe that the future will be better. Hong Kong has traveled all over the world with action films, and its influence cannot be underestimated." Hong Tianming also agrees with his father’s point of view: "Action films are a mature genre, it is a world language, whether it is domestic or overseas, it is a very popular subject matter, and I am not worried that no one will shoot action films in the future."
